Art Tuesday: Arnold Newman

Welcome to Art Tuesday! From now I will try to commit my Tuesday post for Art, mostly photography. Here you'll have some info on my favorite artists and links to where to find more info about them. This First Art Tuesday will be...Arnold Newman.

"There are no rules and regulations for perfect composition. If there were we would be able to put all the information into a computer and would come out with a masterpiece. We know that's impossible. You have to compose by the seat of your pants." -Arnold NewmanArnold Newman was an American Photographer known for his environmental portraits of famous artists. His portfolio includes portraits of  President Kennedy, Picasso, Georgia O'Keefe, Gordon Parks, Ansel Adams, Igor Stravinsky, and many more. If it was famous between 1940-1990, there is a photo taken by Newman. But what made him a true master wasn't his subjects, but how he reveals about them by using the environment. Take this photo of  Igor Stravinsky. Even if you don't who he is, you can deduct he is related to music, specific Piano.

Newman style not only incorporated the environment as a storyteller but changed the way the portraits of the famous should be. It doesn't matter if the "famous subject" is in one corner or only shows part of his eye. You were looking at all the other elements that were part of this person, which became a different kind of portrait of them.I can't get tired of looking at his photos. Each one is like a puzzle to me. Especially the ones I don't know the subject...Umm...Let's play a game...Here are 5 portraits of famous people (at least for some) Can you guess who are they? Or at least what are they? Leave your guesses in the comments...

And a Bonus ...this one is EASY!
